She Ghosted Me: Why It Happens and What To Do Now

There was no argument. Nothing went wrong that you can point at. She was there on Thursday and by the following week she was simply gone, and the not-knowing is doing more damage than a no ever would have.

Start here: ghosting is almost never a verdict on you. It's a statement about what she is willing to do when a conversation gets uncomfortable.

What ghosting actually is

Ending something explicitly costs a person something. She has to write the message, sit with your reaction, and be the one who did it. Disappearing costs her nothing in the moment and everything is deferred. Most ghosting is not cruelty and it is not a considered judgement of your worth. It's conflict avoidance, and it says more about her tolerance for a hard sentence than about anything you did.

The corollary is the part men skip: you will probably never find out why. The mind treats that blank as a puzzle to be solved with enough replaying. It isn't one. There is no amount of reviewing the last three weeks that produces the missing information, because the information was never in the thread.

The two things worth doing

First, one message, if and only if there was something real to close. Not an interrogation and not an audit of what went wrong. Something like: good to meet you, I'd have liked to keep going, take care. Sent once, with no question mark in it, so it closes a door instead of pulling on one.

Second, nothing. No second message, no checking whether her profile went quiet too, no watching her stories to see whether she's alive. Every one of those is the same behaviour: paying rent on a room she moved out of.

The honest read on what it cost you

A person who leaves without a word in week three is a person who would have left without a word in year three. That's not a consolation prize; it's the actual information, and it arrived cheap. The version of this that costs real money is the one where she's conflict-avoidant and you find out after you've built something.

The part that stings isn't losing her. It's the open loop. Close it deliberately: decide, out loud to yourself, that this is finished, and then stop giving it hours it hasn't earned.

Your situation, read properly
